Five Pieces
SARI LIIMATTA
HANNAH Gallery

When discovering Sari Liimatta's pieces, one might think of Sid, the toy-tormenting kid from Toy Story, who cruelly dismantles and reassembles his plastic victims.
These animal-like figures, too, seem to embody the darker side of human nature, a reflection of our voracious consumerism that pierces, breaks down, decorates to excess… and then discards.
Artificial hybrids and remnants of both creative and destructive impulses, they appear like forgotten objects, somewhere between sculpture, jewellery, and anthropological trace.
Unspoken relics to the transformations of a saturated world, Sari Liimatta's works, symbolically charged, hold up a mirror to our actions and to a deeper human nature that's far from innocent.

Born in 1977 in Lappeenranta, Finland, Sari Liimatta is a nature enthusiast, a quiet activist, and a visual chronicler of environmental distress. She graduated in Stonework and Jewellery Design from South Carelia Polytechnic, Finland, and studied for a year at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
Her practice merges sculpture, storytelling, and ornamentation to construct uncanny micro-worlds populated by hybrid creatures and discarded remnants. With a disarming mix of fiction and discomfort, her works give form to the paradoxes of contemporary life and consumption.
